What is therapy?
Therapy is a process of self reflection that identifies problems in our daily life that cause distress and interfere with our well-being. Finding the right therapist that is the right fit for you is the first step, specifically one that is trained and qualified to address the issues causing your distress. The process of therapy has many layers, which is why finding a therapist you feel comfortable speaking with is the most important thing.
Are we going to just talk?
No. Talking is the vehicle to getting to the deeper routed issues. Once identified, there are many techniques that can be implemented into the therapeutic process that do not only rely on talking to do meaningful healing work.
Does therapy actually work?
Yes! Research shows that talking about your feelings—your internal experiences, thoughts, perceptions, values, interpersonal relationships—has several benefits, such as:
- Reducing stress
- Improving self-esteem
- Decreasing anxiety
- Equipping you to manage and navigate depression
- Enhancing your overall well-being
The number one indicator to a positive outcome is your relationship with your therapist. This is why it is important to find a therapist in which you feel understood and connected with.
Is therapy for weak minded or damaged people?
This is a misconception in our culture. Feelings are not problematic and should not be avoided or suppressed.
In fact, seeking support is a sign of health; facing your fears and problems is a sign of strength not weakness.
Finding support for your problems is working smarter not harder.
What’s the difference between talking with a therapist versus a friend?
Therapy at some point should feel as easy as talking to a trusted friend.
Although, talking to someone who is unbiased and has clinical knowledge tends to be more effective for short and long-term healing and problem-solving.
